Healthy, biological alternatives to root canal therapy at our holistic practice

As an authentic biological and holistic dental practice in Dothan, Biodentist Alabama, partners with patients to preserve their natural teeth, our team preserves teeth conservatively and without the use of root canal therapy.
The trouble with root canal treatment
Root canal therapy is often characterized as a “last resort” to save a badly damaged tooth with a deep-rooted infection and to avoid the need for tooth removal. The process involves accessing the innermost pulp of the tooth. During treatment, the infected tissue is removed. Affected root canals are sanitized and reshaped. Finally, the tooth is filled or sealed off and topped with a dental crown.
The problem with this scenario is that even the most skilled dental practitioners cannot possibly remove all the bacteria and other harmful substances produced when a tooth is severely inflamed or infected. The “dead” tooth material is left behind. Your body’s immune system does not respond well to it; your body launches an “attack” to fight off the dead tissues to defend itself. The worst case scenario is the root canal-treated tissues, or source of the infection, as well as your body’s immune response, lead to an overabundance of dangerous bacteria around the dead tooth and frequently in the blood.
Whenever you bite down and otherwise “use” the tooth, lingering pathogens are given ample opportunity to flow into your bloodstream. The dangers presented by root canal treatment persist, and they threaten not only the health of your mouth but also the health of your entire “system” (body),
At Biodentist Alabama, we use filling materials that are characterized as “bioactive.” That means that these materials are adding healthy minerals to the tooth and maintaining an alkaline microenvironment. This approach helps teeth heal from cavity demineralization and bacteria-related irritation.
We use bioactive filling materials and liners in combination with a natural “healer”: ozone therapy. In general, we do everything possible to avoid the damage that might ultimately lead to a conversation about tooth preservation with root canal treatment.
If a patient insists on undergoing such treatment, we recommend the patient seeks out a competent Endodontist which uses the latest lasers and ozone during the root canal. These steps are designed to sterilize as much as possible the infected canals, including accessory canals. With that being said, thoroughly sterilizing the tubules that branch out from a tooth’s root system is an imperfect science. The powerful capabilities of ozone and lasers in this situation cannot be guaranteed. Only you can decide if a root canal is right for you.
