Precision Approach to Oral Bacteria Testing Detects Problems Early for Effective and Targeted Care

Oral Bacteria Infection Test in Dothan AL Area
As a holistic and biological dental practice, Biodentist Alabama works with individuals and families from the Dothan area to maintain the health of their mouths. Led by Dr. Nathan Pfister and Dr. Brian Pfister, our team supports oral health by detecting potential problems early into the disease process. In doing so, we can prevent many harmful conditions and resolve issues swiftly and non-invasively.

Microscopy lends itself well to proactive, holistic, and conservative care. Using high-powered Nikon® phase-contrast microscope technology, we quickly and accurately pinpoint specific species of bacteria present in the oral cavity. Some species are associated with oral infection. Test alternatives have historically screened for fewer than 20 different species of bacteria, which is tremendously lacking when one considers that there is an excess of 600 to 1,000 species of oral bacteria.

The health of your mouth demands extensive, precision diagnostics. Furthermore, since the byproduct of harmful bacteria produces a destructive immune response, by identifying and accordingly fighting bacterial species in a targeted manner, Biodentist Alabama also supports the health and well-being of your “system” (body).

Sophisticated Evaluation for Targeted Therapies

In addition to accurately detecting bacterial species via a simple, tiny sample of plaque, Dr. Pfister also uses advanced microscopy to identify various types of bacteria (from spirochetes to protozoans) and the number of individual bacterial species present. This knowledge informs the most targeted therapies. With a multitude of accurate information about the state of your mouth in hand, we can develop a highly personalized treatment plan.

Such a planning approach is more likely to effectively and rapidly resolve oral infections and other problems because our dentist can recommend those therapies that have been clinically proven to eradicate specific types of bacteria. In many cases, with proactive care, we can protect the teeth, gums, and oral microbiome from the conditions that ultimately lead to the need for costly, traumatic, and time-consuming restorative treatment.

Alternately, by evaluating and isolating problematic bacteria early among those with active disease, we recommend less aggressive and more tissue-preserving methods to eradicate oral infection and disease. Conversely, standard probing and diagnostic processes may intervene with conditions such as periodontitis late into the disease process. Through these standard approaches, patients may be treated with an invasive surgical periodontal pocket reduction to treat the spaces that form between the teeth and gums, and that harbor destructive bacteria.

Bacteria that have been implicated in the development of periodontitis (advanced gum disease) include Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A.a). Likewise, we may detect the presence of Streptococcus mutans, Strep. sobrinus, and Lactobacillus casei – associated with some 80% of dental decay or cavities. Additionally, some types of bacteria, such as P. gingivalis, have been detected in fatty plaques among those patients with atherosclerosis. These plaques build up in the arterial walls as the arteries narrow and harden.

Next-Generation Technology is Here and Supports Sustained Health

So, our advanced approach to oral bacterial testing supports the health and beauty of your smile and your overall well-being. We use periodic microscopy evaluations to sustain the health of your mouth; by conducting tests following treatment, we can visually see just how well therapy may be working. The effectiveness of recommended therapies is shown on the slides – and in the type and number of bacteria present.
